Pre-Wedding Photographer Perth

“Pre-wedding” photography has become incredibly popular, especially among couples from Asian backgrounds or those who want stunning portraits before their actual wedding day. If you’re looking for a pre-wedding photographer in Perth, Norman Yap Photography offers an exceptional experience that results in jaw-dropping images. A pre-wedding shoot is typically a styled photography session taken weeks or months before the wedding. Couples often wear wedding attire (like gowns and suits) or other glamorous outfits and pose in beautiful locations. Think of it as a chance to capture romantic, magazine-worthy images without the time constraints of the wedding day. Norman specializes in full-day pre-wedding shoots, allowing you to explore multiple locations and themes in one epic day of photography.

Full-Day Pre-Wedding Photo Shoot Experience

With a full-day pre-wedding photoshoot, you have the luxury of time and creativity. Here’s how such a day might unfold:

  • Concept and Planning: First, we’ll discuss your vision. Some couples want a mix of nature and urban backdrops; others might want something thematic (for example, a vintage vibe or a casual lifestyle shoot at home paired with dramatic sunset shots outdoors). We encourage you to dream big – this is your chance to get really creative. Once we have ideas, we’ll plan a route and timeline. This could involve 3-4 different locations around Perth (or beyond – we can travel to picturesque spots like the Pinnacles, Lancelin sand dunes, Swan Valley vineyards, or down south to Yallingup or Margaret River if you wish, though extra travel time is considered).
  • Styling: Many couples go for a formal look in at least one location – wearing attire similar to their bridal gown and suit – and perhaps a more casual or traditional outfit for another. You might start in a flowing white gown for a beach or garden scene, then change into a traditional cultural outfit for a heritage location, and finally into a chic evening dress and suit for city skyline shots at night. We can incorporate as many outfit changes as time reasonably allows. Some couples hire a hair and makeup artist for the day (we can recommend vendors) so they can change hairstyles/makeup to match each look. Full-day shoots give you the chance to vary your style dramatically from one location to the next.
  • The Shoot Itself: On the day, Norman will be your dedicated photographer (often with an assistant to help with lighting, carrying gear, and even helping fluff the dress or adjust details). We’ll begin at the first location at the scheduled time, taking advantage of the best light. Expect a mix of directed poses and candid prompts. Norman will guide you into cinematic poses – imagine you and your partner standing atop a cliff with the ocean behind, wind gently catching the veil, gazing into each other’s eyes – those kind of epic shots. But he’ll also capture the in-between moments: the laughter when something funny happens, the way you help each other walk on rocky ground, etc. Because we have a full day, there’s no rush; we might take dozens of shots to get the perfect one, adjust the angle, wait for the sun to peek out of clouds, etc. We break for lunch/coffee as needed (these can also be photogenic moments if you want, or simply off-camera rest times).

  • Golden Hour and Night Shots: With a full-day session, we can plan to shoot during the golden hour (just before sunset) for that dreamy warm glow, and even into the evening. Night shots can be incredibly romantic – think fairy lights or city lights twinkling behind you as you share a kiss. Norman is highly skilled in low-light photography, so if you want a dramatic night portrait with the stars or cityscape, he can make it happen.

The result of a full-day pre-wedding shoot is a diverse gallery of images that look like they could be in a bridal magazine or a fine art gallery. These photos often become centerpieces at weddings (displayed on easels or slideshows), in albums for guests to admire, and of course, keepsakes for you.

It’s like a prelude to the wedding excitement, but in a more relaxed way because it’s just the two of you (and the photography crew) without the pressure of guests or tight timelines.

Clients have praised Norman’s ability to make them feel like models for a day. “Norman made the session a fun and relaxed atmosphere which resulted in beautiful photographs. Another couple was thrilled with how their images turned out, saying their friends thought the photos were “out of a magazine.” That’s exactly what we aim for – high-end, artistic shots that still feel like “you.”

We also understand that for many, a pre-wedding shoot is a new experience. You might be thinking, “We’ve never done something like this before.” That’s perfectly okay. What To Expect?

What to Expect After the Shoot

A full-day pre-wedding shoot yields hundreds of photographs. After the session, Norman will carefully cull and edit the best images. He ensures that your skin tones look natural, the colors of the landscape or background pop beautifully, and any distracting elements are minimized. Some shots might get a fine-art edit for extra drama (for example, a sweeping wide-angle shot in the dunes might be given a cinematic color grade). The end result will be a curated collection of images, often 50-100 final photos, that you can download and use as you wish.

We know many couples want to use these photos during their wedding, so we’ll discuss your wedding date and make sure to deliver the edited images well in advance. Typically, you can expect your photos in about 4-6 weeks from the shoot. If you need one or two sooner for invitations or a slideshow, just let us know and we can provide a couple of highlights earlier.

We also offer printing and album creation services. Many couples choose to create a signature photo album from their pre-wedding shoot to display at the wedding reception (it can double as a guestbook, where guests sign around the photos). We can design a stunning album or even large prints/canvases of your favorite images – imagine a beautiful framed pre-wedding portrait greeting guests at your reception entrance.

Pre-wedding photography is a dedicated portrait session held before your wedding day. It is especially popular among couples who want magazine-quality images for invitations, signage or simply to celebrate their love story.
How long does a full-day pre-wedding shoot last?+
A full-day session typically runs six to ten hours, allowing time for outfit changes, multiple locations and relaxed breaks. This unhurried pace produces the most natural, editorial-quality results.
Can we do a pre-wedding shoot at multiple Perth locations?+
Absolutely. Most full-day sessions visit two to four locations. Popular choices include Kings Park, Cottesloe, Perth CBD and regional spots like Margaret River or the Pinnacles.
How many outfit changes can we have during a pre-wedding shoot?+
Most couples bring two to four outfits for a full-day session. I suggest mixing formal and casual looks for variety. Quick changes between locations keep the energy up and the gallery diverse.
When should we schedule our pre-wedding shoot before the wedding?+
I recommend booking three to six months before the wedding. This gives enough time for your images to be delivered and used for invitations or signage while keeping the excitement close to the big day.
